Resources on Opera in ARMA
Opera is well in ARMA with a rich selection of music from seventeenth through the twentieth centuries. As with other genres the commentaries on several of these works are useful, as are Cindy L. Kim's article on Verdi's La Traviata: The Fiasco, the Furor, and the Singers Who Caused Both and Matthew Franke's article on The Disappearance of Grand Opera, or How a Genre Leaves the Canon. When your students encounter terminology specific to opera, they may find ARMA's Glossary to be a useful starting point.
